Aberdeen city council chief executive, Sue Bruce, has backed Labour calls for a national inquiry into child protection services. Iain Gray, MSP, pressed the First Minister today to back an inquiry:
Labour leader Iain Gray attacked the First Minister for his complacency and failure to address the ‘moral issue’ over intervention when children are at risk, as a council chief executive backed Labour’s call for a national inquiry.
"The First Minister refused to back my call for a national inquiry after another damning report on childrens’ services this week. This time it was Dundee but we have seen a series of similar reports over the last year. Now is the time for action.
"What Alex Salmond fails to appreciate is this is a moral issue over whether or not as a society we should stand back and leave children with parents whose addiction puts them at risk. It is time to re-examnie and change our view on intervention. There is an imbalance here that has to be corrected. "
"I could not believe Alex Salmond’s persistence in defending a flawed system. It was not only a lack of leadership by the First Minister but dangerously complacency."
