About Jim Sheridan

Jim Sheridan is 55 years old. Jim has lived in Erskine, Renfrewshire for the past 28 years and prior to entering politics Jim worked as a material handler for Thales Optronics (formerly Bar and Stroud) in Glasgow where he also served as a Trade Union Convener with the Transport and General Workers Union. Jim has been a supporter of the Labour movement all his life and has been a member for the past 25 years.

In 2000, Jim was selected as the Labour Candidate to contest the West Renfrewshire seat in the 2001 General Election and on 7th June was elected to Parliament.

Jim's decision to enter politics was based on his desire to influence the process of government with the desire to promote the quality of life for every citizen in Renfrewshire and the United Kingdom

Jim's interests in politics extends to all levels of government, however, he has a special interest in employment legislation, foreign affairs, international development and home affairs.

Jim's principle desire as Paisley and Renfrewshire North's MP is peace and prosperity for all his constituents underlined by opportunities for everyone regardless of their background to make a positive contribution to our society.  Furthermore, Jim has stated repeatedly his determination to make Paisley and Renfrewshire North a safe and healthy place to live and to raise families.
