Elaine Smith MSP is seeking a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in politics and current affairs to work as my Constituency/Parliamentary Assistant and Researcher. The successful applicant will be based in my constituency office in Coatbridge with a requirement to work in Holyrood 2 or 3 days per week during parliamentary sessions.
The post is full time, temporary until May 2011 and will involve a wide range of duties working with the Office Manager in the busy constituency office to maintain a responsive and professional service for constituents and also working in the high pressure environment of Parliament to support me in my work as the MSP for Coatbridge & Chryston.
Key duties will include researching & drafting parliamentary speeches, questions and motions; writing press releases and liaising with journalists; conducting research on a wide range of local and national policy areas and providing written and verbal briefings; working and maintaining contact with local organisations on issues of importance to my constituents and other duties as required.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; well-developed interpersonal skills; strong IT abilities; highly-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage several projects within set timescales. You will be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of my work as an MSP, the local area and my aims and principles. It is essential that you are able to provide me with full and dedicated support in carrying out my parliamentary duties and in line with my socialist values.
Salary will be circa £20k per annum, dependant on skills and ability.
