Married, James Kelly was born in Glasgow in 1963. He was educated at Trinity High School, Cambuslang, 1975 – 1980. He has a BSc in Computer Information Systems (Glasgow College of Technology, 1985). He also attained a CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountancy, 1994)
Prior to his election to the Scottish Parliament, James worked for Argyll and Clyde Heath Board and ScottishPower as an Analyst Programmer. He was also employed as a Business Analyst for SAIC, Nov. 2004 – May 2007.
