TORY ATTACK ON PUBLIC SECTOR DRIVEN BY IDEOLOGY
Iain Gray, MSP, said: “George Osborne has got it terribly wrong. This budget is even worse than expected.
"The Tories are using the deficit as a smokescreen to make cuts on services for the weakest and most vulnerable. It is an attack on the public sector and hard working families.
"Scotland is already lagging behind the rest of Britain due to the Salmond Slump which has hit the building industry, along with SNP cuts in NHS and schools. Now we are getting hammered by the Tories.
"George Osborne’s extreme reaction is driven by Tory ideology. It will choke off the economic recovery and lead us on a downward spiral into recession and rising unemployment.
"Supported by the Lib Dems, they know full well the rise in VAT will hit ordinary people the hardest.
"It is a big mistake for the government to stop investing in our future, such as job schemes for young people.
"President Obama wrote to G20 leaders warning against exactly these kind of measures. The deficits needs to be reduced but the rush to austerity undermines recovery and leads to recession.
"The Tories were wrong on the recession in 2008 and now they are derailing the recovery in 2010."
