FLAT FOOTED SNP ANNOUNCE U-TURN ON HELP FOR HOME OWNERS
Flat-footed SNP ministers have been forced by pressure from Labour to announce a u-turn on help for home owners.
The SNP's position unravelled within 24 hours after being criticised by homeless organisations, such as Shelter, and lawyers like Mike Dailly who deal with repossession cases every day.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon, yesterday, told Good Morning Scotland that she had rejected calls for the Scottish Government to strengthen court rules on home repossession.
By the evening, Alex Salmond had been forced into a u-turn. He told The Herald, "if we need to take further action in terms of court action we will look at that and do it as well."
Responding to the u-turn, Shadow Health Secretary Cathy Jamieson said:
"The SNP's flat-footed performance raises serious questions about their competence. They spent most of the day trying to defend the indefensible.
"Nicola Sturgeon made a serious misjudgement by rejecting calls to provide home owners in Scotland with additional protection from repossession. Alex Salmond has now accepted she got it wrong.
"The Scottish Government must immediately follow Gordon Brown's lead and announce moves to strengthen court rules and provide additional protection to vulnerable families. Scottish Labour will continue to press on this until it is done by the SNP."
